Typical Scenarios - Our Clients Stories
‘George is the courthouse facilities and systems manager.
George’s job description bares limited resemblance to that which he does on a day to day basis. He wears many hats and given
his intimate knowledge of the building and the limited capital works budget, he typically finds himself in the melting pot of discussions
concerning: the demands of the registrar and the ‘more influential’ court users: the national IT manager and the AV systems support team.
Everything is converging into his space. The traditional boundaries between IT and AV are becoming blurred and the
expectations of the new breed of court users are placing unprecedented pressure for change. And… as usual, the budget approvals are not getting
any easier.
This story is not uncommon. The replacement of analogue technology in the courtroom and the centralisation of control and monitoring equipment is
delivering big savings in the industry.
Evidence Technology is there to assist George design, commission and support the right technology platform. Even more
importantly, to work with George to training and support users manage the inevitable change that new technology brings.
…Ming Li is a budding partner in a major commercial law firm
‘Mig’ as her friends call her, is somewhat overwhelmed at the though of working through 355,000 or so documents that the
ATO intend to call on in the upcoming trial. She has a good grasp of electronic discovery having fast-tracked her way through the
organisation. She is one of the firm’s ‘power systems users’ and is a strong advocate of the company’s ‘
one version of the truth’ document centralisation policy. Nevertheless, she struggles to get the attention she needs from
the internal IT branch that are under-resourced constantly fighting fires with the latest software upgrade. Mig knows that the
outcome of the case will depend on the way that documents are presented. And… if all else fails, that very poor quality tape
recording which she is going to keep up her sleeve until absolutely necessary.
Evidence Technology introduced some of the initial concepts of eTrials in Australia. The concept of rolling-in and packing up
sophisticated evidence display and document processing systems came about through some of the larger Royal Commissions in the mid
1990s. Evidence Technology is there to provide Mig and her colleagues with a no-fuss, dependable electronic courtroom for the
duration of the hearing. We follow a simple formula (quality assurance approach) to defining requirements, deploying and supporting
systems and decommissioning the facility for business-as-usual operations. The model is tried and tested – refer
to our case studies. eCourts are in demand and Evidence Technology has a range of solutions spanning simple document display
systems to full integrated satellite enabled mobile courtrooms.
… Matt manages an international court reporting and stenography business
In an industry steeped in tradition and with an aging workforce, the mere mention of the word ‘change’ sends a
shiver down Matt’s spine. His workforce of approximately 200 typists is remarkable – some started as Penners
back in the 50’s. Ironic really, they have probably seen more ‘technology refreshes’ than most IT managers
have seen Microsoft bug fixes.
Nevertheless, Matt knows that if he doesn’t make the shift to digital media processing then he will be out of the increasingly
commoditised market.
Evidence Technology is here to help. Our knowledge of the industry is not just based on technology. It is about people,
processes and systems. Specifically, processes and systems that help people work. Technology is just an enabler.
Hold on to your seat Matt – if you want to stay competitive in this market you will need to do more than just invest in digital
evidence processing technology. Evidence Technology will be there to help you and your team for the long haul.
