Vidyo comes to Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission...

The Western Australia Practice of Evidence Technology is pleased to announce the successful integration of its latest video conferencing offering “Vidyo” at the Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission (WAIRC). The solution deployed has been intergraded with the existing ”legacy” video conference solution and is now in production use.

“WAIRC is breaking new ground with this deployment”, said Stuart Herring, Evidence Technology’s WA Practice Manger. “The solution meets the current and future needs of WAIRC, with uncomplicated desktop and room based video conferencing enabling it to seamlessly provide greater client service by eliminating the need for clients to attend the commission in person.”

Herring added “WAIRC have been looking for a solution that met the specific requirements of mobility and remote reach but without the conventional expense of dedicated infrastructure. Many of the Commission’s clients are located in remote areas of the state, so the successful solution had to be easy to use but still perform in mission critical situations”.

Evidence Technology and Vidyo met these needs by deploying Vidyo’s next generation video conferencing solution. Working alongside the Commission’s IT department, Evidence Technology’s team provided professional solution installation and integration into the WAIRC infrastructure.

Inez Kosovich, WAIRC ICT Manager was recently invited to attend the Institute of Public Administration Association (WA), Right Click Conference to deliver her abstract discussing the Commission’s experience of the Vidyo solution.

Permission has kindly been granted for us to share Ms Kosovich’s abstract below. We feel Ms Kosovich’s abstract sums up perfectly Vidyo’s solution and the benefits that can be attained through its use:

The Department has provided Video Conferencing (VC) facilities to the general public for a number of years to enable greater access to the Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission. Traditional methods of VC have always meant that parties to a matter before the Commission, requiring VC, would need to arrange to be in a location that had infrastructure that supported ISDN or more recently IP VC. This was inconvenient and impractical for some parties and increased the administrative and financial overhead to the Department in maintaining similar infrastructure which remains dormant when not in use.

With operational budgets shrinking and the recent advances in Video coding protocols, we sought to improve on existing systems and implement a user friendly, flexible internet based VC solution that addressed the limitations of traditional VC.

Vidyo is a VC solution that has been developed with an underlying architecture matching that of the internet, as opposed to architectures of traditional centralised VC technologies. Perhaps the most exciting aspect to the Vidyo solution is that we are no longer limited to the quality of the lowest endpoints specifications. The Vidyo router automatically makes all necessary adjustments to accommodate each individual’s bandwidth, processing power and screen resolution to ensure that each participant to the VC will receive the best experience they are capable of receiving.

The initial installation and configuration was performed by our vendor in conjunction with our IT Management team. We have been very pleased with the ease of use and the minimal acoustic echo we initially experienced was removed through user education. Overall the Vidyo solution and VC experience has exceeded our expectations.

This positive outcome is a result of internally testing and configuring an innovative solution which has been professionally installed by a vendor with in-depth knowledge of VC to meet our business requirements.
